More Info: Sun 1 Aug at 2.30 pm - Award winning, AsOne Theatre Company presents the world premier of: ‘She Opened the Door’ a fantasy based on fact interweaving the real and fictional women from Hardy’s life and work Village girl seduced by rich squire; misguided mother; feisty young woman trying to make her way in the world, misunderstood wife, unobtainable mistress.’ Thomas Hardy himself always claimed that he only based one character in his books on a real life person. Was his mother the model for Mrs Yeobright in Return of the Native? Was one of his sisters Sue Bridehead in Jude the Obscure? Where did his well-connected friend Mrs Hennicker fit into Life’s Little Ironies and which self motivating Ruined Maid from the villages became Tess of the D’Urbervilles? And there was Emma his eccentric wife, the subject of a raft of his poetry after she died. Which one of these women opened the door to Hardy’s illustrious writing career? 'Evocative, emotional, explosive & v. clever.'
